SOUTH ORANGE FAMILY YMCA

SOUTH ORANGE FAMILY YMCAThe South Orange Family YMCA has been open for just under one short year and is definitely the place for families. The 22,000 square foot facility has two floors of wellness, with various cardio pods, as well as its own designated area for free weights, machines and strength training. The facility also offers a full court gymnasium, 20 x 25 Rock Climbing Wall, Child Watch, a Youth Center, Spirit/Mind/Body Studio, Cycling Studio, Group Exercise Studio and a Men's and Women's Locker Room with soon to come Saunas. Last but not least the Y offers our Community Flex Space as a "free meeting place" for outside organizations, businesses, or groups that wish to have a congregating space.

The Y is currently offering over 70 FREE Group Exercise programs each week such as Zumba, Kickboxing, Pilates, Yoga, Step, Y pump and much more. We have a wide range of wellness programs in addition to 10 week pre-school/youth/teen programs for our youngsters such as basketball, pee wee sports, dance, ballet, soccer, tee ball, football, arts, and more. Our free youth programming, full court gymnasium and interactive gaming in our youth center has made the Y a popular place for both youth and teens after school.

The YMCA also has before and after school in each of the five Monroe Woodbury Elementary schools. This child care service is made available to help working parents within the surrounding area. The program allows kids to participate in arts, homework and recreation. The Y is celebrating its third year at Camp Discovery at Harriman State Park. The camp serves children 5-12 years of age and also offers a Leaders in Training program for youth 13 and up. Within each session a variety of activities are offered that encourage children to appreciate the outdoors and its natural surroundings.

The South Orange Family YMCA now offers financial assistance for families who may not be able to afford to join the YMCA due to hardship. In order to maintain this service, the Y has reached out to local businesses to help support this campaign, and will be doing some fundraising throughout the months of February, March, and April. The South Orange Family YMCA has set a goal of $20,000 its first year, and hopes to receive community support for such a great cause.

CrossFit GPS

Exercise for fat loss, health and performance

CrossFit GPSOwner and fitness coach Anthony Figueroa has been a part of people's fitness solutions in Orange County for 10 years. And since July of 2011 he has made his home here in Monroe at 40 Lake St.
CrossFit GPS is all about empowering people with the ability to take back responsibility for their own health. Through teaching their clients how to eat, coaching their clients how to move safely at high intensity, and by holding their clients accountable to their goals, CrossFit GPS is changing peoples' life in and out of the gym.
Anthony's philosophy is simple...
"The success you achieve at CrossFit GPS has to transfer to your daily life in a valuable way. What good is deadlifting 300 pounds if you can't help a neighbor move a couch, or you lack the energy to play with your children?" - Anthony F.
CrossFit GPS teaches their clients how to move properly, and then increases the intensity appropriately to get them results, safely. Every workout is high intensity, and is never repeated.
"The body has a great way of adapting to the stress we put on it...so every workout has to be different. We use a lot of variety at CrossFit GPS, and we are always learning new things to bring to our clients to ensure continuous success." - Anthony F.
Some may visit CrossFit GPS and find something obviously missing...there are no machines!
"The human body is our greatest machine...I teach people how to use their own strength to stabilize the movements they make and create power. A simple example...sitting in a chest machine or walking on a treadmill won't give you the practical strength and endurance to safely pick your child up from the play ground and rush them to get emergency care in case of a serious fall." - Anthony F.
Anthony's vision is to make elite fitness coaching accessible to as many people as possible.
"Buying or renting exercise equipment, or belonging to a gym isn't enough. This isn't a hobby. Movement is as important and full of impact to our survival as breathing! There is a lack of proper coaching, out there, of movement skills according to how the body is designed. CrossFit GPS is here to teach proper movement techniques, to reduce the injuries that may come from daily activity...Oh, yeah and you are going to look and feel amazing doing it!"
Anthony would like everyone to succeed...so he is making available a FREE report that reveals "21 Top Fitness Success Tips!" Click here to download your FREE report.

Mill Pond Cleaners

Mill Pong CleanersThe locally-owned Mill Pond Cleaners has been a fixture of Monroe's downtown since 1962.
Owner Mike Littier says that the thing that sets Mill Pond apart, and keeps his customers coming back, is that he strives to be up to date with environmentally responsible techniques and procedures. Mill Pond doesn't use petroleum-based Percholorethylene ("Perc"), the most commonly used solvent among dry cleaners today.
Instead, Mill Pond is the only cleaner in Orange County that uses "Green Earth" solvent, made of pure liquid silicone. It's non-toxic and environmentally friendly - and it means that when you walk into Mill Pond, you don't catch a whiff of "that dry cleaner smell."
Mill Pond is forward-looking (in avoiding perc), but on certain subjects, they're backward-looking. If you get a tour into the back of the shop, you'll see pressing equipment that has been maintained since the 1940s and '50s. "It jsut does a better job," says Littier. He explains that newer, automated equipment is air-operated, and its operator can't change the amount of steam, or the head pressure. Different fabrics need different care, and these vintage machines have the variables that allows for it.
They pick up and deliver to homes and offices as far away as Goshen and Tuxedo. Four days a week, their vans are out working for them.
All of this attention to quality means that Littier can boast another distinction: Mill Pond is the only cleaner in the area that offers a money-back guarantee. They are confident in their reputation, and confident that reputation is at the heart of repeat business. Next year will mark Mill Pond's fiftieth anniversary, so it seems that they're right.
